Introducing MKFX
MK effects (MKFX) is a new suite of single, built-in nodes made for quick effect. MKFX simplifies setup for commonly used effects with specialized parameter controls.
Pixel Composer nodes were designed to be as modular as possible. When I saw a new effect, I tried to extract it down to the smallest components. However, this leads to some effects requiring too many nodes or systems which leads to both performance and UX problems.
For example, the rain effect which should be very simple to add. Requires complicated setup for particle spawn area, and relies on the caching system which can confuse new users.
To solve this problem, I’ve introduced MK effects (MKFX) in the Pixel Composer 1.16 update.
Currently, in 1.16.0.2, I’ve added 5 MKFX nodes, with the sixth one coming in the next patch.
- MK Rains: Deterministic, looping Rain/snow effect generator.
- MK Saber: Pixel-accurate sword/trail effect
- MK Tile: Tileset generation
- MK GridFlip, GridBalls: Just look cool idk
- MK Flag: Deterministic, looping flag waving with shadow.
MKFX nodes will allow me to add more fun and complex effects without worrying about modularity and stuff.
It really just a bunch of new nodes I don’t know why I need to make a post for this. But hey, the logo is pretty cool, right? Also, you should try MK Tile, I heard someone made an entire software just for this effect.
